English Language Course and Nature of Science in Secondary School for Grade 8th (Adana Sample from Turkey)

Abstract
The major purpose of this research was to examine the learners' knowledge of nature of science in English
learning process during the unit: Success Stories: A Living Scientist according to content and language
integrated learning (CLIL). For this study, data were collected from 105 8th grade students attends a state
secondary school in the province of Adana, Turkey during the 2014-2015 academic year. The data were gathered
by the questionnaire that was prepared by the researchers, who collected the data in three weeks. The descriptive
statistics were used. The frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations were considered in the process
of data analysis performed using Spss17.0 for windows. The data analysis showed the means of items. Item1
(Scientist studies only in the field of science), Item2 (Scientist studies only in the field of social & human science),
Item6 (scientist is much concerned with his/her errors), Item13 (Scientist's life is filled with success), Item14
(Scientist was a successful student in his school life) and Item16 (Scientist's life is always full of happiness) were
low, whereas the means of the other items on the questionnaire were high.
